Ignacio Buse opens in Beijing against Quentin Halys: schedule, draw and a doubles team with Cobolli
Peru's Ignacio Buse, world No. 35, starts his Beijing ATP 500 campaign against France's Quentin Halys. When he plays, who could be next and how he arrives at his first Asian swing as a top-40 player.
Peru has a player to follow in Asia. Ignacio Buse, ranked No. 35, makes his debut at the Beijing ATP 500 (China Open), played on hard courts from September 30 to October 6. His first opponent is France’s Quentin Halys, world No. 50, whom he has never faced in an official match.
Buse arrives fresh from the Laver Cup, where he played for Team World, and in the middle of the best season of his career.
The opponent: a Halys looking for his form
Halys, 29, has had a two-sided 2026. He won the first ATP title of his career in Kitzbühel and made good runs at the Miami Masters 1000 (fourth round) and the US Open (second round), both ended by Alexander Zverev. But he lands in Beijing on a three-match losing streak, the latest in Hangzhou.
For Buse it’s a real opening: a lower-ranked rival short on confidence, on a surface where the Peruvian has already won a title this year.
The singles draw
If he gets through, the second round brings the winner of Alex de Miñaur, the fifth seed and Buse’s Laver Cup teammate, against Argentina’s Mariano Navone. A meeting with De Miñaur would be one of the toughest hard-court tests of his season.
Doubles with Cobolli
Buse also plays doubles, alongside Italy’s Flavio Cobolli. In the first round they face Portugal’s Francisco Cabral and American JJ Tracy, doubles specialists ranked 34th and 43rd.
Buse vs Halys: when and where to watch
- When: scheduled for Thursday, October 1 at 11:30 a.m. in Beijing (Wednesday, September 30 at 11:30 p.m. in Peru; 03:30 UTC). The order of play can shift, so keep an eye on it.
- Where to watch in Latin America: ESPN and Disney+.
- Venue: the tennis center at Beijing’s Olympic Green.
A breakthrough season
The Buse arriving in China is not the player of a year ago. In 2026 he won his first two ATP titles: the Hamburg ATP 500 on clay, beating Tommy Paul in a three-set final, and the Winston-Salem ATP 250 on hard courts, against Arthur Fery. In late August he reached a career-high No. 30, and at 22 he sits firmly in the top 40.
Beijing offers more than points: a chance to settle among the best at a 500-level event and to put together his first big week in Asia.
Play Beijing’s hard court from your living room
While you wait for the match, you can get a feel for a court like Beijing’s. In TennisHero you pick the hard court, with its medium bounce, and your phone becomes the racket: hold it like a handle, swing, and your player answers on your TV or laptop. No console, nothing to download.
Three ways to warm up before Buse vs Halys:
- Work on your serve. One swing tosses the ball, another hits it. Just like real tennis, the trick is to strike it right at the top.
- Switch to Hard mode. You aim with the racket face, and a full swing hits harder than a flick of the wrist: the closest thing to painting the lines like a pro.
- Challenge a friend. Send a link and play an online match from your own homes before Buse’s match starts.
